DJ Maaco started out drumming in church at six, was breakdancing by twelve and taught himself to mix and scratch on a Radio Shack mixer in his teens. At 16, Keith Tucker showed him an 808 and a Juno 106, and he started making music. His first release came in 1992 with One Nation; with DJ PDOG he went on to form M.A.P. Records, releasing as Detroit In Effect, before linking up with Serge of Clone Records.
With influences running from gospel through hip hop to techno and Miami bass, Detroit In Effect brings that ghetto groove in its purest, unfiltered form: irresistible music with enough dirt for the sleaziest party animal and enough clarity to inspire the most informed minds.
