Glasgow based DJ/producer, Scott McKay aka Fear-E, is the latest home-grown talent to be signed up to the critically-acclaimed, DJ Mag award-winning Dixon Avenue Basement Jams imprint, following hot on the heels of fellow locals Denis Sulta and Big Miz on an increasingly impressive roster which also boasts heavyweights in the shape of Marquis Hawkes, Jared Wilson and Casio Royale.
His 2016 debut track ‘Candi’s Quadra’, which featured on DABJ Allstars Vol. 2, stayed true to the label’s “Real rockin' raw shit from the street for the clubs” mantra by layering cut-up vocals of Ms Staton’s 1976 hit, ‘I Know’, over warm thumping beats to create a stripped-back yet deeply jackin’ warehouse favourite, and introduced Fear-E, the producer, to the world.
Having already made a name for himself as one of Glasgow’s most technically-gifted and diverse selectors over the past decade - DJing alongside names such as Regis, Surgeon, Jackmaster, EDMX, Legowelt, Hieroglyphic Being and James Ruskin - Fear-E’s mixes for Rinse FM and Hypnotic Groove showcased his musical range and mixing skills to a global audience. Blending House and Techno from the likes of Paul Johnson, Schatrax, Paranoid London and Drexciya into Sound Stream, Alden Tyrell and material from his own ‘Santini’s Ghost EP’, it’s clear there will be plenty more to come from this equally skilled studio operator.
